Andreas Mayer - Aberdeen Cult hero

2. Andreas Mayer
A hilariously slow player, Andreas always looked as if he was carrying about 12 injuries. While being devoid of personality (he was, after all, German), there were a number of amusing and perplexing moments that will stick in the mind. Firstly, the small group of fans that started up a chant of (to Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer") "Whoooa, we're half way there, WHOA-HOA ANDREAS MAYER!" that sent an entire stand at Pittodrie into stitches. Secondly, in a depressing league cup tie against lower-league Falkirk, Mayer was chasing a long ball with 38-year-old ex-Celtic veteran Tommy Coyne, and despite the fact that they only 'ran' about 25 yards, it seemed for all the world like time had stopped. It was like a scene from the Matrix: both players were running in Super-Slo-Mo without seemingly covering any ground. I swear that I looked at my watch and the hands were spinning round at 10,000rpm. Absolutely surreal. So Andreas has to be included.
